CRACK SEALING
Don’t Allow Small Cracks
to Become Big Problems!
Cracks in asphalt pavements allow water penetration from rain and snow into
the sub-base of the pavement; failure to seal cracks results in more cracks,
potholes and eventually a major pavement breakdown, causing expensive
asphalt repairs.
Cracksealing should be done each time sealcoating is
applied, more often if necessary.
D & D Asphalt Specialists
uses exclusively an emulsified hot-rubber, non tracking, crack sealant ( Fed
Spec SS-S-1401-C ) for ¼” to 1” cracks. Larger cracks of 1” to 2” require a
special cold bituminous crack filler.
Preparation of the cracks is extremely important:
-
We spray the weeds five days prior to filling.
-
We remove the weeds.
-
Cracks are cleaned with 100-psi air pressure.
-
We finish by applying sealant in cracks to create a
watertight seal.
When investing in crack sealing, always specify
hot-rubberized crack sealant, it remains flexible for years, cold
pour sealants (in a jug) become brittle and crack, once again allowing water
penetration.
What you want, when you want it.
